I had my first perfume class today. Turns out: Perfume making is HARD.
I’ve been griping for YEARS about how most commercial shampoos, perfumes and soaps and stuff smell like candy flower coconut nonsense and I hate that. I have a supa-sniffer, and prefer stuff like “olive” and “green tea” and “fig leaf” and “pink peppercorn” for scents. I’ve been experimenting with making homemade body spray with green tea and white musk essence, water and vodka in a spray bottle (with limited success).
SO for my birthday this year, my mom bought me a two-day natural perfumerie class. I was super excited to learn more about the real process. Turns out, it’s all very complicated and it is actually really easy to combine various aromas with disastrous results. I mostly blame patchouli. What a sad disgrace for an essential oil!
I’m determined to get better at this.
