Today is the pub date for my new graphic novel, SOMETHING NEW: Tales From a Makeshift Bride! To celebrate the book, I went on a little photo trip down memory lane, snapping photos of SOMETHING NEW in locations where the story took place. Read on for a few peeks at the real-life spots depicted in the book!
Page 13. Chicago Ave and Halsted St, the romantic industrial intersection where John and I met up on our bikes for our first date.
Page 15. Quimby's comics and bookstore in Wicker Park. A stop on our first date that remains a favorite spot here in Chicago.
Page 15. Myopic Books, a great used bookshop where we stopped in on our first date to compare book tastes.
Page 15. Reckless Records, where we went on our date to compare music preferences.
Page 16. John's apartment when we first met. There was a bad fire here a few years ago, but it's good to see the building where we first MADE OUT is all fixed up!
Page 17. The bleachers at Churchill Park, where we went on our first date and John pulled out a surprise lunch from his backpack.
Page 50. Can you believe I made it fifty pages before including this glorious and majestic creature? Linney, our photogenic fur pile.
Page 86. Chicago is a major player in this story, and has a majorly nice skyline.
Page 134. My mother was kind enough to collaborate on this photo project (much as she did with the wedding planning!). Mom's beautiful home, the site of the wedding. Photo by Mom.
Page 146. Another Fork In The Road Diner, in Milan, New York. The best food in the Hudson Valley, and the place that catered the wedding! Photo by Mom.
Page 219. The woodworking shop Mom built, in part to hold the wedding in! Appropriate rain included. Photo by Mom.
Page 223. The woodland grotto behind the workshop where we had the wedding, complete with uncomfortably wet dog. Photo by Mom.
Page 226. Rhinebeck Town Hall, where we went to get our marriage license... Twice. Photo by Mom.
Page 237. The lake by my mom's house where we spent the afternoon before the wedding, decompressing. Photo by Mom.
Page 250. My mom's bedroom, where my bridesmaids and I got prepped on the big day. Complete with my mom's kitty's squeaky mouse on the daybed. Photo by Mom.
Page 256. This is where we got hitched! It's a fully operational woodworking shop now, so it doesn't look particularly matrimonial anymore, but look at all of my mom's cool scary machines! Photo by Mom.

Thanks for coming along on this walk down book-memory lane! Hopefully this offered a fun glimpse into the real-life places where this story took place. Thanks again, and look for SOMETHING NEW; Tales From A Makeshift Bride in your local bookshop!
